Solomon Hill fooled the Pelicans into thinking he was a “3+D” guy by making 7 triples the final game of last season. Fooled them so bad that they gave him a 4-year, 48 million deal. At least when Isiah Thomas signed Jerome James to that huge deal, it was on the back of a good playoff series. The Pelicans signed this guy on the back of only a single game.
Hill is a decent low-level role-player. Kind of like a less athletic Alonzo Gee. He’s not really a 3+D guy, although his three-point shooting is up this year. He’s more of just a “D” guy. He could probably play a good role on a championship contender. Or something. He’s definitely not a good fit on a team that needs scoring, and even more not a good fit when he’s getting paid tons of money.
This is only his 5th 20-point performance over 4 seasons, making this performance the most unlikely of the night. Forget about Westbrook and Harden. Everyone expects their kind of insane stat-accumulation. This is the REAL MVP game of the night. 23 points for Hans Solomon is the same as Westbrook getting a legit quadruple-double, in my opinion, so you’d better watch these damn highlights.
