One would think that Alex Poythress’ strong finish to the season would guarantee him a spot on the Sixers next year. I mean, he probably will be on the team next year, but whenever I think of promising young Sixers who were dumped to the wayside, I think of one guy:
Henry Sims. Also Hollis Thompson but mostly Henry Sims.
Sim City had multiple statlines better than this Poythress statline, but he’s out of the league now. Who’s to say the same couldn’t happen to Poythress? They’re both fringe guys who can only succeed when surrounded by failure, and their apparent lack of upside makes them less tantalizing then many other prospects.
Here’s another thing: whenever I see Poythress’ last name I think of Olden Polynice. I don’t even know what position Polynice played, and I certainly can’t draw any kind of meaningful comparison between the two players, but, you know. I’m just saying. Olden Polynice.
