Both Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Spencer Dinwiddie ended up with career-highs tonight, and still the Nets lost. It would be easy for me to go “LOL Nets” and leave it at that, but tonight, we will find the real reason as to why never before seen performances by two of their most important players resulted in nothing but a defeat.
Found it! It’s because Courtney Lee scored 27, which is approximately 27 more points than you would expect him to score. If Lee played within his career norms, this would have been a blowout win for the Nets. Problem solved, case closed. No mysteries here.
We can still enjoy this performance for what it is, though: the most complete display of RHJ scoring skills to date. It has layups, which is one thing he can do, and it has really messed up looking midrange jumpers, which is the other thing he can do. He definitely doesn’t make anything look easy. Even routine layups he makes to seem difficult. Like, just lay it up bro. Part of the problem is he often creates those shots out of nothing, trying to do stuff that no one else on his team would even try. Is that trait a positive or a negative? Tonight, positive. Other nights? Probably also positive.
