Tyus Jones is currently sixteenth in the league in Real Plus-Minus, which only proves to me that some secret cabal of stat-heads huddled in the deepest recesses of the ESPN headquarters invented RPM because they love Tyus Jones and hate Jeff Teague. But this secret cabal couldn’t make the numbers lie that much, because Teague is still in the top half of all players when ranked by this stat. I, for one, am tired of statistics-oriented secret societies dictating the way I consume NBA basketball, but there’s not much to be done about it at this point. If you disbanded ESPN this illuminati of stats would probably move to Bleacher-Report or something.
For fun, I checked out who was at the bottom of RPM, and I found Jones’ teammate Shabazz Muhammad in second-to-last place on the list. That decision to turn down a $40 million contract last off-season is looking really dumb now. Him and Nerlens Noel should start a club for people whose agents should be looking for another line of work.
