This was just an absolutely sick scoring exhibition by Wayne Selden. 31 points off the bench in 26 minutes. Out of nowhere. If there’s a more unexpected performance from this season, I can’t think of it. He just went out there and nearly willed the Grizzlies to victory by himself, by the power of his never-as-wet jumper.
However sick his game tonight was, it was tempered by the most disappointing commentator performance of the season. The Grizzlies commentators know all about Selden. They watch him all the time, they know that he’s not much of a thread to go nuts in any given game. You would think that they would be the ones to get the most excited about what he was doing tonight. A good commentator would be flying off the handle with each successive bucket. But these guys, these guys could only say stuff like “Selden hits again” before talking about whatever BS thing they wanted to talk about. They didn’t even mention how many points he had AT ANY POINT DURING THIS FRICKIN’ VIDEO! He scored 31 god-damn points, way more than he’s ever scored before and probably way more than he’s ever going to score again, and you can’t even mention it ONE TIME?
I should’ve used the Pelicans commentators. Maybe they would’ve at least acknowledged the incredible performance that was unfolding before their eyes.
