Why didn’t Jon Leuer get any minutes before Marc Gasol got injured? He’s been almost entirely a garbage time player during his time in Memphis. Did the coaches not detect the greatness inherent in his play?
I swear, the people that NBA teams hire to evaluate talent must be the biggest bunch of idiots ever. Messing up draft picks, misallocating minutes, overpaying scrubs, it’s horrible. I though Hollinger was supposed to be some Moneyball-esque advanced stats savant who can find value in fringe NBA players. But it’s obvious that he didn’t detect Leuer’s innate ability to be a beast.
Or maybe he did. After all, Leuer was acquired for Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby and a first rounder. That’s a lot of stuff to give up for a supposed bench player. Is Hollinger just now setting his genius plan into motion?
