It’s not too early to start the Kevin Huerter retirement tour. We know he’s going to retire at some point, all NBA players do unless they are killed in action or something. So why not get a head start on the jersey-swapping? He can from city to city and swap jerseys with opposing players and they can tell him how much he means to them, how big of an influence he was on their game. And he can get touching tribute videos as well, I almost forgot to mention the touching tribute videos. Then, by the time he actually retires in a decade or whatever, he can just go away quietly because all the tributes have already been paid. That sounds good to me.
The Hawks missed their chance to make the whole night about Huerter for this game. He should’ve been given the ball on every possession, the defenders should’ve slacked off a bit so he could score more, and he should’ve walked off the court at the final buzzer to a roaring arena. Instead, it was like he was barely there. Only 17 points, and the threes he did hit where met with only the usual amount of enthusiasm from the home crowd.
Oh well. There’s always next year. And the year after that. This retirement tour is far from over, friends.
