Coby White started off this game the same way he finished his last game (a reminder: he hit 7 threes in the fourth quarter). I was NOT happy. That’s what I get for actually watching the Bucks: a floppy-haired rookie coming in and making a whole bunch of threes. He had five of them in the first half, a big part of his 19 points. I almost stopped watching right there. Not about to waste my time getting mad as the Bucks let a rookie drop 50 on them like he’s Brandon Jennings or something.
Then he cooled off, way off, and finished with 26. Still a nice point total, especially given his recent struggles, but it’s not 50. Thank god. My poor little heart couldn’t handle something as outrageous as that.
White is billed as a point guard. But man, this guy really likes to shoot. It was like a contest out there between him and Zach LaVine to see who could shoot the most shots (White won, 23-20). Lots of the shots (from both of them) were going in, but it didn’t feel like the epitome of team basketball, exactly. White will pass it sometimes, he’s not as much of a total chucker as LaVine, but he hasn’t had a decent assist game aside from his debut and he’s only averaging 3.5 assists per 36. This is something to look at moving forward.
For now, I’ll just continue looking at that beautiful fro. Best in the league, Jarrett Allen’s is great but it’s kind of stiff looking. White’s is majestic, like a lion’s mane, not just a sphere of styrofoam spray-painted black.
