Thankfully for my sanity (my grasp on which was already tenuous to begin with), we were recently granted a 9-game reprieve from Dillon Brooks highlights. If that hadn’t happened, I think I would’ve retired and gone to live in a shack in the woods, because Brooks is right back where he left off, putting up big amounts of points while chucking the HECK out of the ball. I don’t how many more Brooks vids the market can take, or how many more I can take.
Here are his shot attempts from the last three games: 26, 22, and 24. That’s a ton of shots for a role-player, even a role-player as chucky as Brooks. Just look at the ones he made in this vid. Could any of those shots be called “good” shots? It’s debatable. The supreme confidence he has in his jumper means he takes it whenever he wants, off the dribble, hand in his face? Doesn’t matter. Can’t score points if you don’t shoot shots, that’s what my grandpa always said to me.
He actually never said that. At least not in my presence. But it’s totally true.
I’m at the point where I would gladly exchange, like, 10 Brooks vids for even a single John Konchar vid. And I don’t think I’m alone in that sentiment. The ‘Zlies are still fighting for a playoff spot, so I expect Brooks’ interminable chucking to continue, but if they ever fall out of the race, I’m anticipating a return to the tank-tastic Memphis teams of the last few years.
