Matthew Dellavedova 7 Points/14 Assists Full Highlights (3/7/2020)

I guess this is a new experiment in Cleveland now: start Matthew “Wacky Delly” Dellavedova at the point guard position and shift Collin Sexton to shooting guard. Makes sense to me, given that Collin “Mr. 3 APG” Sexton is really just an undersized shooting guard forced to play PG for most of the year given the presence of Darius Garland. With Garland out for a few games, this is the Cavs’ chance to shake up the lineup a bit.

The Cavaliers attempted this in their last game against Boston, and while it worked out extremely well for Sexton, who scored 41, it did not work out very well for Delly at all: 0, 0-of-8 from the field, 4 assists. This game worked out much better for Delly, what with him getting fourteen assists as well as adding in seven points on 3-of-4 shooting (talk about efficiency!).

Fun fact: this is only the second time this season that a Cavalier has gotten double-digit assists. Darius Garland had ten in a game one time.

If you could combine Delly’s passing with Sexton’s everything else, you would have a really good point guard. A great point guard, even. Definitely an All-Star-level point guard. But there’s no existing technology that allows us to literally merge two people into one person, so the best we can do at the moment is just play them at the same time and deal with the fact that they take up two separate slots of a five-man unit. Not a horrible compromise, as we see here.
