It’s unfortunate that Joe Harris is in a contract year but didn’t even get to play with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant as part of a championship contender. And I’m not joking around when I say that healthy Kyrie + healthy Durant + healthy LeVert + healthy Harris (he’s always healthy bee tee double yew) would be a championship contender. Because it would be. And Harris would perfectly fill the Klay Thompson role that makes acquiring a championship that much easier.
Harris is still perfectly filling in the Klay Thompson role for the Nets. You can see that just by watching this video. But the scoring isn’t as easy for him as it should be because the Nets don’t have enough talent to give him the optimal scoring environment. Add Durant to this team and he instantly becomes an eighteen PPG per game scorer. Easy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got up to twenty PPG per game just on the back of unmolested three-point looks all day every day.
That’s why it’s so tragic that this is a contract year for Harris. If he had been allowed to demonstrate his status as Klay Thompson 2.0, he would be getting paid such hella money this off-season. There would probably be a couple teams looking to acquire him and make him their second option on offense. Instead, he’ll get paid a moderate amount of money and his role wherever he ends up will likely be the same role he has in Brooklyn.
My suggestion for him? Resign on a sweetheart one-year deal with the Nets, win a championship with Irving and Durant, and THEN get paid the next off-season when team finances aren’t getting booty-blasted by a global pandemic. I should totally be his agent.
