NBA fans, as a whole, are very interested in the concept of “worst player in the league”. Which is fair, because while thinking about good players is fun, thinking about bad players is like a million times more fun. That’s the whole reason I started this channel. So people could think about bad players more.
Cameron Payne has often been brought up in discussions regarding that concept. I certainly have not been shy about criticizing him, even if I’ve probably toned it down over the years (just like I have with pretty much every player, your old pal DTB is getting soft in his old age). But here’s the deal: Payne has now played in five separate NBA seasons. Could a player who has stuck around that long really be termed the league’s worst?
I’m bringing this up because while it might of been somewhat reasonable to regard him as the league’s worst player at points during his career, it is totally unreasonable now, because he’s averaging, get this, ELEVEN points per game for the Suns. ELEVEN. AND A HALF. And the Suns have won all their games in the process.
How is this even happening? Did he contract COVID-19 but instead of it making him sick, it made him sick at shooting the three-ball? That might be the most likely explanation at this point. I hope Suns fans are enjoying what they’re seeing right now, and are realizing the unlikeliness of it. Bulls fans certainly never saw any sort of sustained good play from him at any point.
