I would say that this is an excellent time to figure out that you can do something other than shoot contested off-the-dribble long twos. The Thunder need non-awfulness wherever they can find it, if they wish to make the playoffs. A version of Dion Waiters who can make layups and threes would be the closest thing they’ll find to Kevin Durant, at least until the real version comes back (don’t go to DC don’t go to DC please please oh god).
I’m not super optimistic for Dion’s chances, though. Horrible midrange J’s are his game, and he won’t give those up without a fight. I don’t blame him. I love shooting those things, it’s so much easier to just pull up for one instead of wasting a bunch of energy trying to get something better. Any advanced stats nerd would explode watching a pickup game with me involved, just as they explode when watching Waiters do his thing.
