“Evan! What are you doing here?” Mario Hezonja exclaimed as he opened the door to his condo.
“Well, I was in area and I thought, why not visit new teammate Mario and show him a good time?” replied Evan Fournier, looking down at the floor.
“Is that the fun time you have planned?” Mario said as he gestured at the huge basket in Evan’s arms, filled to the brim with French delicacies, baguettes sticking out the top along with a miniature replica of the Eiffel Tower. He didn’t look very excited at the thought. “Well, come in, I guess.”
Evan followed Mario inside the condo, and placed the basket on an end table. “Here, take this, as a token for the respect of France to the Croatian people.” he said to Mario, who wasn’t listening as he rummaged in his refrigerator. They had just begun to settle down with some non-French lite beers when Evan pulled out his buzzing phone.
“Oh no!” Evan cried out in faux surprise, slapping his hand to his forehead. “I just realized important sponsorship meeting I have to be attending!” He quickly stood up and rushed towards the door. “You must enjoy these fine items without me, remember to pair the Brie with the Chardonnay for the ultimate taste treat!” He shouted back at the still sitting Mario as he rushed out, slamming the door behind him.
Once in the safety of his car, Evan slumped down in the seat. Another gift basket? What had he been thinking? He pressed his fingers to his temples. If the hidden bomb hadn’t worked against Vesely, why would it work now? And why would he want to assassinate Mario anyway? For the twisted machinations of the President Hollande? Doubts crept into his mind. The bomb was scheduled to detonate in only a matter of seconds.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the car window. He looked up, and, to his horror, saw a familiar-looking Eiffel Tower replica framed by baguettes.
“You forgot your gift basket, Evan!”
