Aaron Gordon is still in that stage of player development known as “The one where DownToBuck makes highlights if the player shows anything at all”. This is not a good stage of player development.
Put another way: I wouldn’t even think to do highlights of Karl-Anthony Towns if he scored a mere 12 points. It just wouldn’t register at all with me. But when I see Gordon with double digits in the points column of the box-score, my sensors immediately start going off. “This is a highlights package that I should make,” I say to my cat Japurri, who is usually purring in my lap. “I should make these highlights because Aaron Gordon hasn’t ever consistently scored this many points. You are such a good little kitty.”
The Magic have winning aspirations this year, leaving them little time for the bringing-along of a still-raw prospect. If Aaron Gordon wants to see some more minutes, he’d better buy some sort of bat, start practicing his swinging motion and begin studying Tobias Harris’ movement patterns.
