C.J. McCollum 27 Points Full Highlights (4/23/2016)

In January I wrote these words in a C.J. McCollum video description:

“Can you even win Most Improved Player if your minutes double from one year to the next? It’s not CJ’s fault that some losers named Wes Matthews and Arron Afflalo were hogging all the shooting guard minutes, and we all know that CJ could have been doing this last year if he was given the chance. In that sense, he hasn’t improved as much as his stats seem to indicate, he’s just being allowed to do the things that he has always been able to do.”

I then go on to describe a new award of my own creation, called the “Unshackled Player of the Year” award, which is for players who didn’t improve per se but instead were put in a situation where their already-present talents could be put to better use, or a situation where they could get more minutes. Because, as I said before, I’m not totally convinced the McCollum did that much improving. Since he was a four-year college player, I think he could always score this way from the first time he stepped on an NBA court.

So, if I were to redo the awards. McCollum would get the UPotY, and Giannis Antetokounmpo would be MIP. No homer.
