Whoever’s in charge of the equipment at The Verizon Center needs to turn down the sensitivity of the microphones on the basket. For real. I don’t especially like the normal commentary that comes with a game, but it gets worse when it’s obscured by dudes yelling “and-one!” over and over. Among other, less savory, things. Followed by commentators apologizing for “technical difficulties”.
Here’s another idea: place mics on all the players, do away with the commentators entirely, and enjoy basketball the way it was meant to be enjoyed; up-close and personal. You wouldn’t even have to tell the players that their jerseys now contained a hidden microphone. Now THAT would be entertainment. NBA players in their natural environment, cursing up a storm, screaming at the refs, talking smack to each other. Damn. I’m getting hyped. Someone make this happen. If you can put ads on the jerseys, you can surely find a space for a mic or two.
I should say something about Elfrid Payton I guess, since this is his best scoring performance to date and it’s not guaranteed that he’ll ever do better. Uh, he hit a bunch of threes that he didn’t normally hit? And John Wall was to busy scoring 52 to play defense? That’s all I’ve got.
