One of the puzzling things that the Kings keep doing every offseason is overpaying “quality”, high-character role players. It’s like they expect the Garrett Temples of the world to turn into something more than they are. Every outside observer knows that Garrett Temple has finished improving as a player and is a known quantity, but some dude or dudes in the Kings front office had other ideas.
Either that or they’re trying to change the culture by bringing in players who won’t complain when the team loses a bunch of games and who might eventually convince all the drama queens on the roster to just chill out for a bit. Garrett Temple has never been angry as far as I can remember. He seems pretty chill. If the Kings roster had only chill dudes on it, that might be the first step towards getting back into the playoffs.
The sad thing is that Temple has actually been one of the better bench players on the Kings this year. So, the Kings roster construction is a complete failure (again), but the one thing that seemed most likely to be a failure (signing Garrett Temple) is paradoxically one of the only things they kinda got right. Good job I guess?
