Robert Covington has lowkey been one of the worst minutes-receiving players in the league this year. He had previously been heralded as one of the rare successes of Sam Hinkie’s (R.I.P. in peace) “cycle as many scrubs through the roster as possible and maybe some of the will be good if we force-feed them minutes” strategy. Now, he’s basically a forgotten man in Philly, buried under the incredible hype of their high draft selections.
He’s lucky that Dario Saric and Jahlil Okafor are shouldering most of the criticism for sucking, because he’s been sucking just as bad. Joel Embiid distracting everyone from everything except himself is also helping.
I have to imagine that he’s just not hitting shots right now. Is that what’s going on? I admit, when I watch the 76ers, I basically zone out the second Embiid steps off the court, and when he is playing, I pretty much watch only him. I can’t help it! He’s so compelling, and watching Covington instead would piss me off more than anything.
