I’ve not yet given up hope that Buddy Hield can win the RWWADTYOTY award this year. For those ignorant of awards and their associated acronyms, that one stands for “Rookie who was actually drafted this year of the year”. I figure that since Joel Embiid is going to win the lame old ROY award, which isn’t even fair to everyone else because he got to spend so much time around an NBA team, that there should be a new, hipper award specifically for rookies who aren’t 30 years old (THON MAKER JOKE GOES HERE) or from Europe or both or whatever.
If Hield picks it up and plays more like he did tonight and less like he has the rest of the season, that award can be his for the taking. Who else is going to challenge him? Jamal Murray? There isn’t even another option… Domantas Sabonis? Malcolm Brogdon? I shouldn’t have to type those names in reference to ANY award. You can see where I’m coming from. Hield has one of the best chances to get minutes and put up stats. He just needs to find his shooting stroke/pray that it is at some point going to reliably extend beyond the NBA three-point arc (R.I.P. in peace Doron Lamb).
