Emmanuel Mudiay hasn’t improved as much as I was hoping for. I know, I know, it’s usually the third year where you really see improvement with point guards, but if anything, Mudiay has regressed slightly. Sorry to sound like a dictionary but regression is, like, the opposite of improvement.
Mudiay’s shooting is still not very good at all, but the more worrying part is that his assists are way down, a trend that culminated in him playing 60 minutes over three games and notching one (1) total assist. The coaching staff probably told him to cut down the turnovers (which he has), and that was the result. He’s picked it up a bit since then, likely out of embarrassment, and he had 5 dimes tonight, which is pretty decent, but I didn’t show them because the buckets he scores stand best on their own.
The positive thing with Mudiay is that if you take all his best games (like this one) and only look at those, he looks like a good player. It would be way worse if he never had any good games at all. He just needs to cut all those games where he shoots 1 of 8 and turns it over a bunch of times. That’s all. Simple, really.
