It might seem that T.J. “The Scot Stockton” McConnell has been marginalized this season since he no longer holds the title of “starting point guard” for the Sixers. Never fear, University of Arizona fans (the only people in the universe who care about T.J.)! McConnell is actually getting more minutes per game than he was last year, it’s just that those minutes are off the bench instead of at the start of the game. His scoring is down to a paltry eight points per 36, and that might also be an indicator of marginalization, but I’m DTB and I can only look at an easy stat like minutes to determine whether or not a player is being treated unfairly by his coach.
Fun fact: as far as I can tell (there’s no easy way to look up this stuff), McConnell is one of only two players who has more assists than points (153 assists vs. 148 at the time of publication). Marcelo Huertas is the other one, with his searing totals of 40 assists and 39 points. Bruno Caboclo is tied at three apiece (LOL [Lots of Laughs]). So I suppose we can surmise one of two things: McConnell is really good at passing, or he really sucks at scoring. Maybe we can surmise both things.
