No lie, I legit thought that Trey Burke was dead. Not just buried on the Wizards bench, which would be the kind of “dead” that Marcus Thornton is, but actually clinically dead. For real. I kind of thought it was sorta weird how no one was caring about a former top-10 pick who died while he should have been in his prime, but I didn’t want to tell people their business. And I swear I saw his face in one of those “2016 Sucks” posts.
Whoops! Not only is Trey Burke not dead, he is alive! So alive that he can step on an NBA court and score 27 points in Bradley Beal’s absence. I didn’t think he had this kind of performance left in him (because I thought he was dead), but he totally proved his haters wrong tonight, going 10 of 12 from the field with a perfect 5 of 5 from deep.
He’s setting himself for more minutes after this. At least for a little bit. A few bad games and he’ll be right back on the bench sitting next to Andrew Nicholson, thinking about where it all went so wrong.
