This much anticipated rookie battle ended up somewhat one-sided. Somewhat. A bit. Jaylen Brown, the third overall pick, scored 16 points in 23 minutes on a wide variety of layups and dunks. Brandon Ingram, the second overall pick, didn’t score in 25 minutes. Oops!
When I say “wide variety of layups and dunks”, I truly mean a wide variety. He had a standard two-hand crusher dunk. He had a totally-disrespectful-to-the-holy-game-of-basketball-as-envisioned-by-Dr-James-Naismith off-the-backboard alley-oop dunk from Isaiah Thomas. He airballed then gathered his own miss while not being called for a travel and put it back. He gathered an alley-oop from Avery Bradley with his left hand, switched it to his right, and scooped it from underneath the rim while getting fouled. That last one was pretty insane, but I think I described it so well textually that you don’t even need to watch this vid. You’ve got a vision in your mind of how it looks, right? Don’t let this vid ruin that perfect vision of Brown’s incredible finish.
