Spencer Hawes scoring 14 points in the second quarter tonight will end up one of my favorite-est memories from this Bucks season. There has been a lot of good stuff going on in Milwaukee, especially with Giannis, but I don’t think I have been as hyped for the Bucks as I was when Hawes was making Dwayne Casey and the entire sovereign nation of Canada into his own personal bitchtoy.
I had pretty much given up hope that Hawes was ever going to play this season. They traded for him, but only to shed that awful Miles Plumlee contract, and he sat on the bench and clapped dutifully. Every game, just sitting there, high-fiving teammates and being a good bench-sitter. He did manage to get into a game late against the Clippers a couple nights ago, but that was garbage time, and he didn’t look very interested in actually playing basketball.
Then he comes in and ignites a huge run against the “championship contender” Toronto Raptors? I was losing it. Totally losing it. I was delirious with excitement, just as the fans in attendance were. At least I assume they were, though it is possible they didn’t fully comprehend what they were seeing: a dirty hippie hitting threes and scoring in the paint while not jumping.
