Brian “Big Shot Rob” Roberts’ primary claim to fame is that he once led the league in free-throw percentage, shooting 94% from the free throw line. This was in the 2013-14 season when he played for a newly-christened Pelicans team who were without their starting point guard for most of the season (Jrue Holiday, who else?). I thought it would be interesting to see if he ever managed to assist James Southerland or Melvin Ely for a bucket, but after some basketball-reference wizardry, I have determined that he didn’t. He did spend a lot of time diming up Greg Stiemsma and Jeff Withey, though.
This stop in Charlotte might be the end of the road for B-Rob. He would be the third-string PG if Razor Ramon Sessions weren’t injured, and even with Sessions out he’s still only getting about ten minutes per game. His short NBA career will be remembered not only for his free-throw record but also the time when he got a career high and then had it taken away because one of his shots was misattributed in the box score. After a few more years in Europe I predict that Roberts will return home and spend the rest of his days counting his small, but still substantial, pile of NBA money.
