I’m a big fan of scrubs, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not really a big fan of elite teams resting all their good players for no reason, even if it results in more highlights of said scrubs. Some of the lineups trotted out tonight, by both teams (though the Spurs had actual injuries to deal with), were almost D-League quality. I hope Kerr and Popovich are enjoying their mututal jack-off sesh, congratulating each other on how clever they are.
Ian Clark was the role-player who benefited most tonight. He scored 36, by far a career-high, and half of his points went unacknowledged by the commetators. These darn national games are always kind of like that, especially for marginal players during blowouts, but it’s not usually this bad. They did eventually recognize his career-high, but when he hit that three after his own missed free-throw to give him 36, they were back to talking about whatever they wanted to talk about, game action be damned.
I don’t see why someone can’t give the fans what they really want: footage of games unsullied by insipid commentary, with only crowd and arena noise to accompany the miked-up players. These highlights of Clark dominating the Spurs would be much improved. Not like they need much improving if you ignore the talking. He really did some great stuff tonight, and I hope all the people who bought tickets to see Curry were at least partially satisfied by Clark’s impersonation attempt.
