I’ve got a new theory that I want to float out there for feedback. There is no better to place to debut my groundbreaking basketball hypothesis than the comment section of a YouTube video, which everybody knows is the internet’s preeminent basketball analytics community.
Here it is: Willie Cauley-Stein contributes more to winning basketball than DeMarcus Cousins.
Think about it. Cauley-Stein can slot into a team concept with his defense and with his emerging scoring ability. Cousins IS the team concept by himself and everybody else is just along for the ride. If Cousins doesn’t want to play defense, he doesn’t, and if he wants to shoot it thirty times in a game, he will, and no amount of coaching will stop him.
This might sound like I’m just being a Cousins hater, and, yeah, actually I am hating on DeMarcus Cousins right now. Call it recency bias because I just saw Cauley-Stein do his thing literally five minutes ago as I was editing this highlight video, I don’t care. All I know is the Kings made it a game against the second-best team in the West, and the Pelicans got beat by an average Grizzlies squad.
Hopefully Cauley-Stein takes the Kings to the playoffs sometimes soon (something Cousins never did) so I don’t look like a total moron for writing all this stuff.
