D’Angelo Russell (who has probably outgrown the “D’Angelo Bustell” nickname, at least from my end) didn’t have an exceedingly efficient game last night, going 9-of-25 from the field after draining four quick three-pointers in the first quarter, but, you know what? 29 points is 29 points. You can deny it all you want, but the tenets of mathematics decree that 29 points will always be exactly 29 points, not more and not less. I have found that this rule holds true even if you re-watch the highlights and you can’t figure out exactly how the 29 points happened.
The easier-to-comprehend number that came out of this game is D’Angelo’s one assist. Just one. Even with the huge hit to his assist total this year, he’s still averaging a career high in that category, so I’ll cut him some slack here. At worst, I’ll just come up with a nickname that attacks his propensity to shoot the ball at all costs. Does “D’Angelo Chucksell” work? Not really, but I’m going with it.
“D’Angelo Chucksell had just one assist in this game because he chucked so much.” Yeah. I like it.
