New strategy for the Mavericks: run that lob play between Wes Matthews and Dennis Smith Jr. every time down the court for the whole game. It worked so well on the first possession of the season, as well as the first possession of this game, that I don’t see why they wouldn’t just do it all the time. Think of the insane stats! The opposition would probably sniff it out eventually, but in the meantime I bet you could get Dennis like 40 points.
It worked for me when I was a coach in a little kids league. Obviously not exactly the same, because even my tallest kiddo was approximately 10 feet away from dunking the ball, but we only had one play and we ran it all the time. I mean, they could barely remember that one, sometimes they’d forget it halfway through the game and I’d have to call a timeout and re-teach it to them. No, I’m not going to tell you the play. We won over half our games with it, and I’m not gonna divulge my secrets in case the NBA comes a’knocking.
I had to stop being a coach when they wanted me to do games while NBA games were happening. Uh, excuse me. I have to make highlights. Jokes on them, I don’t think they even make highlights of that crappy league anyway.
