Last time I made a Willie Cauley-Stein highlight video, he was stepping out to hit threes and showing some of his masterful midrange touch. I might not have gone out and explicitly said it, but I figured that Kristaps Porzingis and Anthony Davis and especially Brook Lopez were about to be made obsolete by this athletic seven-footer who possesses an advanced arsenal of scoring moves. So when I saw he had 26 points against the lakers, I figured I was in for another masterful display of shooting.
That’s not quite what this video gives us. Cauley-Stein does not make a jumpshot in this video. However, he does prove to have undeniable alley-oop chemistry with Bogdan Bogdanovic, catching multiple lobs and bringing to mind the long-ago Jason Williams-Chris Webber connection (I’m just guessing here that Webber caught lobs at least some of the time). WCS also shows that he can drive from the three-point line and dunk on people’s heads as long as the “people” in question is Julius Randle. The addition of just one or two jumpshots to this video would have made it Cauley-Stein’s magnum opus, but it’s pretty nice even when everything is coming near the basket.
I wonder if Kings fans are still done with this guy or nah?
