There have been a lot of revenge games going on this season. Players who were cast aside by the teams they thought loved them, exacting sweet nectary justice on the FO’s responsible. Justice taking the form of three-point barrages, punishing inside scoring, and snide postgame comments.
What J.J. Redick did tonight wasn’t exactly a revenge game, sadly. It’s been a long time since he was on the Magic, and I can’t come up with any reasons why he’d be mad at them. Yeah, they traded him, but it was to a playoff team featuring the dynamic duo of Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings. Basically the best situation any off-ball shooter could hope for.
So there was no need to dish out revenge tonight, as he faced his old team. Him scoring 29 points and hitting 8 threes was just a coincidence. He wasn’t mad or anything, just doing his normal thing while not being guarded very effectively by Elfrid Payton.
