I want to make some comparisons here to Sundiata Gaines’ immortal game-winner, but it just doesn’t seem right. This shot by C.J. Williams was great, but Gaines’ was over the top. Nationally televised against LeBron James at the buzzer on a broken play fading out of bounds? If I saw that in a movie I would complain that it was unrealistic. This one is just some role-player hitting a swaggy three with nine seconds left. Not a walk-off game-winner, the best player on the other team was Dennis Schroder, and the only people watching this one were a few diehard Hawks and Clippers fans.
Still, it was a really sweet shot, capping off a solid performance by the other Williams. Hopefully this is the game that allows him to graduate from two-day land to real-actual-contract land. Unless he’s already there. I admit, I am finding it extremely hard keeping track of the marginal NBA players this year. There’s just so many of them!
