Is it just my overactive imagination, or has Dennis Smith Jr. been really clutch this year? Not so much in terms of actual game-winning buzzer-beater mob-him-at-center-court shots, but in terms of scoring in bunches in the fourth quarter. There is definitely some place where can I look up stats like that and confirm my suspicions, but that kinda takes the fun out of it. Much better to speculate based on nothing but my extremely faulty memory.
Even if he hasn’t been especially clutch the rest of the season, he was super clutch tonight, dragging the Mavericks almost all the way back with his finishing ability before the refs decided that they wouldn’t acknowledge their intentional fouls with under 10 seconds to play. A Dennis Smith Jr. three-pointer to send the game into overtime would have been perfect, if a little unexpected since he only hit a handful of jumpers tonight, settling instead for tons of layups.
Normally I complain about layups, but these weren’t so bad. Would’ve been better if he dunked them all, though.
