It’s weird to think about Gary Harris being a first-option on a team, but here we are. I’ve still got, in the back of my mind, visions of rookie-year Harris, you know, the one who sucked really bad, and those visions still slightly distort my perception of him. Even as he makes scoring look easy, I can’t help but think of the bricklayer who I secretly called a bust in my “bust diary” where I right down all the names of people who I think are busts.
In an ideal world, Nikola Jokic would be the clear number-one option and Harris would be the second banana. But as we all know, the world we inhabit is not ideal, and Jokic doesn’t want to shoot tons of shots just to score. Harris doesn’t really either, which is fine, because he doesn’t need that many shots to get his points. Efficiency for a guard is often talked about, but usually on the low side of the spectrum, not the high side, where Harris is. What’s up with that? Why are people so negative?
