I sort of get these feelings that maybe Timberwolves fans (and even the Timberwolves commentators) are disappointed with what Jeff Teague brings to the table and would rather see more of Tyus Jones out there on the floor. I can see where they’re coming from; Teague likes to score about as much as he likes to pass, whereas Jones doesn’t seem to care about scoring that much (if he did care about scoring, he would take more shots, NO DUH). It makes sense to have a pass-first point guard on the floor when you have basically three alpha males (Butler, Towns, Wiggins) on the team. Somebody like Ricky Rubio. I don’t know. Just throwing names out there.
I’m too lazy to put together a list of all the backup point guards in the league and rank them by how good I perceive them to be, but Jones has gotta be up there next to, I don’t know, D.J. Augustin or Shabazz Napier something. He’s under contract for one more year after this one, but with his improved play I’m pretty sure he’ll be around for plenty more years after that. If you had asked me my opinion on that subject after Jones’ dismal rookie year where he shot 35% from the field, I would’ve been like “LOL midget bust, get out of here short man, go average ten and six in Europe scrublord”.
