The Cavaliers are Kevin Love’s team now. He gets to be the man just like he was in Minnesota. But his second banana this time around isn’t Michael Beasley. It’s Cedi Osman! Cavs fans have been hyping this guy up for the whole offseason, hyping him up for reasons I can’t figure out other than that he’s foreign-looking and says funny stuff on social media sometimes. With the amount of hyping going on, I fully expected Osman to come out and drop a big ol’ nothing-burger. Because that’s what happens when players get overhyped.
Happily, he went out there and did some good things. 17 points worth of good things, defying my expectations and making the Cleveland fanbase as a whole look like one collective genius. I was wrong to doubt. Osman looks like he made some strides in the offseason, still gleaning wisdom from LeBron’s vast stores, and he is ready for the true second option role.
I am not overreacting. Look at the Cavs’ roster. Who else is going to step up? George Hill? Larry Nance? Don’t even talk to me about Mr. Hold-The-Ball-In-The-Finals-While-LeBron-Frantically-Gesticulates. The Cavs are going to be bad, but with Osman shouldering a big load, they’re going to be a team to watch. Or something.
