One of the best happenings of the 2017-18 was Bobby Portis bragging he was going to get 40 to an opposing bench and then only getting 39. Dang it, Bobby, you know that only superstar players are allowed to make proclamations like that. Otherwise you’re just begging to be made a fool of.
As far as I know, he didn’t say anything of the sort tonight, but I wouldn’t have blamed him if he had claimed he was going to get 30. After his efficient 18-point first half, I was at least pretty sure he was going to get 20. And he did! He was the reason this game was even close at half time, and also, in a more roundabout way, the reason why this game eventually turned into a blowout.
I want Bulls fans to tell me honestly: is this reformed puncher better than Jabari Parker? I’ve got my own opinions on the matter, but I don’t think I can trust them. Because now that Parker isn’t on the Bucks, I’m all of a sudden super pessimistic about his future NBA prospects. Whereas with Portis, it seems like he has a more transportable game, like he could do the stuff he does without too much trouble on any other team.
It seems like so long ago when he was a rookie and every Bulls fan was begging whichever coach they had to even put him in games.
