I spent some time this summer working on nicknames for all the rookies who I thought were going to be good enough to earn nicknames. That included Marvin Bagley. I should’ve written them down instead of just thinking about them because I’m pretty sure I came up with a really sweet one for Bagley and I can’t remember it. It’s even possible that I did write it down because it was so good but then I threw out the HotPocket wrapper by accident.
I’m not going to waste any more time thinking about it right now. It’s gone, and It’ll come back if it feels like it. At the present time, I’m more concerned with how Bagley sucked for all the exhibition games and then somehow dropped 19 in only his second NBA contest.
To reiterate: Anthony Davis was on the other team trying to stop him from scoring but 19 points still happened. Impressive work for a guy who can’t shoot or use his right hand.
There will be a lot of discussion in the coming years about the decision to pass on Luka Doncic for Bagley, but that’s a discussion that I’m not going to begin right now. I don’t want to make Mavericks fans feel bad that they had to settle for a fat out-of-shape Euro while the Kings got a stud who averaged 20 in college and can contribute to wins (still waiting on those but be patient) right away.
