Dwight Powell AKA Dwight Power is currently leading the league in field goal percentage at a robust 80%. That obviously won’t continue, because no high-volume player has ever shot 80% from the field (even 70% is exceedingly rare), but I’m sure his FG% will remain high due to the continued excision of the jumpshot from his game.
I feel like most of Powell’s success can be attributed to the fact that he gets to play with J.J. Barea. Those guys might have the best PG-C chemistry in the league and I’m not even joking. A pick and roll with those two is almost guaranteed to finish in a dunk or a foul (or maybe a Barea layup if he’s feeling frisky).
Powell also has to thank Mark Cuban for always making sure that there is a “starter-quality” center on the roster so that Powell can stay in the reserve role that he thrives in. I’m curious if he could make it as a full-time starter, but we’re not going to get to find out unless DeAndre Jordan goes down with an injury, and DeAndre is a notoriously injury-free player.
