The best Orlando Magic-related thing to happen all summer was Evan Fournier tweeting a picture of his newly restored hairline with the text “@KingJames hit me up bro”. It’s risky, as a role-player of Fournier’s caliber, to diss a superstar (and by extension, his army of nuthuggers) over a non-basketball attribute, but I thought it was funny. Even if it did kinda look in the picture like Fournier colored in his missing hair bits with magic marker.
The astrologically inclined would say that Fournier’s first two games, which were garbage, were karmic retribution for being so brazen. My theory is that he simply is the kind of player who plays bad some of the time. Otherwise, he’d be a star by now, with his confident shooting stroke and… nicely trimmed beard.
Magic fans weren’t too happy with his performances in those games, understandably, but I hope this near-career-high will be enough to ease their worries. He was hitting his threes, but he also had some nice drives, including a few where he drove it so good that the Philly defense couldn’t even muster a challenge. Just a straight open drive to the rim, like he’s back in France on his ratty local court with nothing but bare rims and the stench of baguette lingering in the air.
How romantic.
