Luka Doncic did a good job of diming DeAndre Jordan tonight. No one really cares if someone can make simple passes around the perimeter for jumpshooters. They care if you can find your bigman for easy buckets right at the rim. Those are the valuable assists, the ones that really count.
If Doncic can keep that up, and also start finding a few three-point shooters (this is where you exclaim “What three-point shooters?” while Mavericks fans wonder why Wesley Matthews is so broken), he can start getting double-digit assist totals regularly. It didn’t take Ben Simmons that long, so it shouldn’t take Doncic long either. It’ll be even better when Dirk comes back, if he ever comes back, and if when he comes back he can still shoot at least a little bit.
We definitely need at least a few hookups between those two so that when this current Doncic-led iteration of the Mavericks wins a championship, they can show those clips signifying the bridging of two eras. It would be SYMBOLIC. SYMBOLISM would be involved.
