I’m not gonna lie, I was a little bit stoked when I found out that the Bucks went out and got Brook Lopez on a cheapo deal in the off-season. Do people use the term “stoked” anymore? Most people use “hyped”, but I feel like “stoked” is more about intense happiness and “hype” is about intense excitement. In the case of the Blopez signing, it was definitely more stokeage than hypeage. I was totally stoked about it. Now the Bucks had a real stretch-five and not just a crappy theoretical stretch-five in Thon Maker.
I won’t tell you my exact feelings when the Bucks signed Ersan Ilyasova, but let’s just say it was…actually, let’s not go there. It was intense, that’s all I’m saying.
Now, watching Lopez hit five rapid-fire three-pointers in a row sent me into the throes of hype. I was not stoked. I was hyped. To avoid my BHL (blood-hype level) from spiking, I had to put up some “highlights” of Bucks-era Monta Ellis. That de-hyped me to a level where I could watch the rest of the Bucks game without having some kind of medical episode. Of course, that didn’t stop me from over-indulging on celebratory McDonald’s burgers, which resulted in a different kind of “episode” this morning.
