Naz Reid is under contract for three years after this, getting paid around 6 million in total. That seems like an awful long kind of contract for a player like Reid, but only this year is guaranteed, which basically means that if he doesn’t pan out like they want, they can cut him at any time with very little cost. But if turns into a beast (the more likely situation), they have him under team control on a cheapo deal for a bunch of years.
These are the kinds of contracts that win you championships. Not saying that the Wolves will win a championship (personally, they seem like the kind of team that will suck forever), but having a future 10 PPG per game scorer getting paid literal peanuts (I took a closer look at his contract and it stipulates that he will get paid at the rate of 10 peanuts for every dollar) leaves a lot more space for other moves.
I will say that Reid needs to re-find his three-chucking groove. He had a stretch of three games a week or so ago where he didn’t shoot any! For a guy who was making his name as the three-chuckingest player in the whole league, that’s not okay. His form is so compact and quick, there’s no reason that he can’t spam 20 of them per quarter. Tonight was a little better, with 6 attempts (and 4 makes) in 14 minutes, but that’s not even close to 20.
