I was hopeful that every single shot in this video was going to be a hook shot, but my hopes were dashed when it turned out that Robin Lopez threw a couple garden-variety layups in there. Layups are kind of like hook shots where you’re shooting from in front of your body instead of from the side, but not everybody is going to agree with my semantics on that one, so I couldn’t in good conscience put the words “/8 hook shots” in the title.
Despite that, Fropez is definitely the most visible practicioner of the hook shot in the league today. It’s been this way for a long time now. A lot of big men will shoot a hook shot every once in a while, but Fropez actively seeks those shots out. The hook shot is HIS shot. It’s such a calling-card for him that I’m unironically thinking about making a Robin Lopez Hookilation at the end of this season.
Also, why the HECK is this guy’s nickname not “Robin Hook”? It just came to me ten seconds ago and it seems too perfect to not have been conceived of before.
