There’s some sort of stat out there that shows that Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn are combining for a whole lot of points as rookie teammates. Like, more than the usual rookie tandems. That makes sense; Nunn is obviously one of the sickest rookie scorers we’ve seen in a while (small sample size warning oops too late) and Herro won’t be far behind once he starts hitting shots he can easily make. Every time he’s open and he misses it’s a surprise to me, and it’s probably a surprise to him too.
These two rookies have combined to make the Heat way more fun to watch than last year. When I’m browsing games on LeaguePass trying to decide which one to watch, there’s actually a chance that I’ll choose the heat just to watch those two play. Last year, that would never happen. I’d choose literally any other team over them, because their assemblage of role-player talent was just totally uninspiring. Plenty of okay players, but no one to draw your attention.
Problem is, Jimmy Butler is now on the team, which knocks them down a bit. Everyone keeps telling me how good that guy is, and they’re right, and… it turns out I can’t really articulate why I don’t like Butler. But I don’t need to have a reason. This is America. We have a thing called “freedom of speech” and I’m exercising my right to be totally unreasonable about Butler.
Okay, here’s a reason: it’s because he might be taking shots away from Herro even if he didn’t tonight.
