Coby White, on the surface, put up a nice-looking line of 20/5/5 (I call it “The Tyreke”). However, a cursory deeper inspection of his statline reveals the festering rot which ruins his performance:
9 turnovers.
I don’t know if I’ve ever made a video where the player in question had that many turnovers. It’s impossible for me to check, but it doesn’t seem likely. The players who handle the ball enough to get nine turnovers in a single game are usually to good to appear on my channel in the first place. So it’s possible that Coby White has set a very dubious, unwanted record here.
James Harden and Russell Westbrook have both had 10-turnover games this season. A bunch of players have had nine: Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond (This was probably the game where Tom Gores said “trade that bum”), Nikola Jokic, Zach LaVine, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, D’Angelo Russell, Russell Westbrook, and Trae Young. You can add Coby White’s name to that list of shame. Just one more errant pass and he would have been up there with the most careless and ball-hogging players that the league has to offer. That’s not the direction his game should be developing.
