I’m digging P.J. Dozier here. Of course this is a highlight video where he plays well so I’m going to be biased, but he’s doing some things that I like. Jamal Murray can take his sweet time coming back from injury. They don’t even need him chucking the air out of the ball when they’ve got Dozier to handle some of the ball-handling duties and Michael Porter Jr. is out there ready to chuck the ball so much that it’s deflated by the halfway point of the second quarter.
The only problem is, the Nuggets already have a better version of P.J. Dozier on the roster. His name is Monte Morris. If Morris starts and Dozier backs him up, it’s like you get 48 minutes of Morris except some of the time that Morris is slightly worse. Whether or not that actually constitutes a “problem” is a determination that should be handled by the experts (I’m not an expert despite my own implications that I am); most teams have a point guard tandem that brings complementary strengths and weaknesses to the table, but I’m not seeing that right now with the Nuggets. Things change when Murray comes back, of course.
But I’m honestly really buying into the idea that the Nuggles don’t need a volume scorer at the point guard position. Time to activate my network of highly-respected, highly-followed sockpuppet Twitter accounts to start trade rumors.
