According to basketball-reference, Isaac Bonga doesn’t qualify for the “season leader” stats because he doesn’t meat the criteria for qualifying (criteria which I am entirely too lazy to look up). However, if he did qualify, he would be the proud owner of the third-lowest usage rate in the entire league.
That’s right. At 10.6% usage (where usage is defined by some bizarre mathematical algorithm that takes into account field goals, free throws, and turnovers), Bonga is only ahead of two players: Royce O’Neale and P.J. Tucker. After this game’s stats are taken into account, he might be ahead of Moe Harkless, but he’ll definitely still be behind Tony Snell (who is the poster child for comically low usage rates).
At least Bonga has an excuse. He’s a young player in his second season who doesn’t have a well-defined role. At least O’Neale and Tucker have roles: play defense, shoot threes. Is that Bonga’s role too? It could be. Or his role could be just to play defense and not shoot any shots ever. Maybe a ‘Zards fan could come in here and tell me what Bonga’s role is so that I’m enlightened for the next two games until the ‘Zards season ends and then everybody’s roles get shifted around in the offseason.
