I hear a lot of mean people saying a mean thing about Michael Porter Jr. Somehow, these mean people are unmoved by his sudden emergence in The Bubb as a premier scorer, and continue to say mean things because their hearts are made out of tar and black holes.
The mean thing they say is that Michael Porter Jr. can’t play defense.
Um, excuse me? Have you watched him score the ball recently. In the words of the late great Jabari Parker, “They’re gonna score no matter what you do.” That’s so true. NBA players are good enough that they will score points no matter how much defense you play on them. So MPJ is one step ahead of the game by not even bothering to know what “defensive positioning” is or when “help defense” is a good idea or whether “defensive rotations” are a good idea in a given matchup. All he needs to worry about is becoming the #1 option while Jokic feeds him easy looks and Jamal Murray pouts because he’s not “the man” anymore.
Why are mean people so obsessed with everybody being a two-way player? Some players are one-way players. Just because they’re one-way players doesn’t give you the right to say mean and hurtful things about them. Only I have that right. If you pay five thousand dollars to the NBA for your “say mean things about NBA players” license (like I did), then you’ll have that right.
